New Volvo Diagnostic Tool

Foreign Affairs of Duluth has recently purchased the latest computerized diagnostic tool for Volvos. It is called VIDA (Volvo Interactive DiAgnostics), and communicates with the car's computerized systems through a Bluetooth wireless transceiver called DiCE (Diagnostic Communication Equipment). DiCE can also be connected using a USB cable if necessary. It is the same system currently being used by Volvo dealerships for diagnosing problems.

The DiCE unit is plugged into the car's On Board Diagnostic (OBD) connection, and transmits the data via Bluetooth wireless to a dedicated laptop computer located at the technician's work station. The computer uses VIDA software to display the diagnostic information, beginning with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). VIDA will show any faults that have been recorded in the car's OBD computer so the technician may make the correct repairs instead of having to make an educated guess as to possible problems as in the past.

The VIDA-DiCE system can also communicate directly with the Volvo Tech Center via the Internet, which allows the technician to have the top Volvo diagnostic experts just a few keystrokes away. If newer software is available for the car's computers, that can also be downloaded and installed in the onboard computers.

This diagnostic system works on all Volvos from 1999-on, and will continue to be used on future models. Foreign Affairs of Duluth is only the third Volvo service facility in the U.S. to have the VIDA-DiCE wireless system. Many Volvo dealerships are just now getting their DiCE Bluetooth wireless units.

This diagnostic service comes at a considerable expense to Foreign Affairs, including a monthly subscription fee, but we believe that it will be a benefit to our local Volvo customers. Now, instead of having to drive to the Twin Cities for certain in-depth service, it can be performed here at Foreign Affairs of Duluth. That will save our customers a considerable amount of money in travel, waiting time, and shop expenses. The difference can easily be a saving of hundreds of dollars to our customers on just one visit.
