Down the hill and across town. 15 minutes from Proctor to a shop that actually has the software for your car.
Auto repair for Proctor, MN drivers means a short drive down the hill and across Duluth to 722 E Ninth Street. About 15 minutes, and at the end of it a shop with manufacturer-level scan tools for foreign makes rather than a generic code reader.
Proctor sits at the top of the hill, which means most Proctor drivers do the descent and the climb regularly. That is a genuine workload on brakes and on cooling systems, and it is one of the reasons we look at the whole corner on a brake job rather than only the part that squeaks.
Everything else is the northern Minnesota standard. Salt from November, cold starts that find weak batteries, and frost heave in spring that goes after bushings and alignment.
Repeated descents heat brakes and wear pads faster than flat driving. Not a fault, just a reality worth measuring at each service.
The way up is a sustained load, and it is where a tired thermostat, water pump or fan controller announces itself.
Hills are harder on an automatic than the mileage suggests. It is a good argument for keeping fluid service on schedule.
Checked on every brake job, because on a car that has seen several winters here it is the finding that matters most.
Cold overnight soaks plus short trips is the combination that kills batteries. Fall testing prevents January tows.
Clunks over frost heaves are usually links, bushings or mounts, and they are cheap to fix while they are still noises.

Not for scheduled maintenance. Federal law protects your right to use an independent shop without affecting your factory warranty, provided the work is done to specification and documented. For most foreign makes the nearest dealer is a drive to the Twin Cities.
We work on the SUVs and wagons on our makes list, including Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Volvo XC, Subaru, 4Runner and similar. We do not do heavy truck work.
