Oil, filters, fluids, plugs and belts on the interval your manufacturer set, using the specification your car actually calls for.

Almost every expensive repair in this shop had a cheaper version 6 months earlier. A leaking hose before it takes out a water pump. A worn belt before it strands you. Maintenance is how we catch those while they are still small, and it is the main reason some cars here are past 250,000 miles and still going.
The specification matters more on foreign cars than most people are told. Oil grade is not interchangeable; a modern VW or BMW engine specifies an approval, not just a weight, and the wrong oil in a direct-injection turbo engine causes real problems over time. The same applies to coolant, brake fluid and transmission fluid. We use what your car asks for.
The other half is the inspection. When your car is on the lift for an oil change, that is the cheapest look anybody will ever get at the underside of it. We check brakes, lines, boots, bushings, belts and leaks, and then we tell you what needs doing now, what to plan for, and what can honestly wait. All three of those answers are real answers.
Cold does not kill healthy batteries, it kills marginal ones. A five minute test in the fall prevents a tow in January.
Freeze protection is not optional here, and coolant that has been topped up with water over a few summers may not have as much of it as you think.
Tread is what moves snow out from under the tire, and the tire is the only thing touching the road. Ice is a different problem: grip on ice comes from the rubber compound, not the tread, which is why a winter tire works and an all-season with deep tread does not. Worth measuring rather than eyeballing.
Salt season is about to start again. Anything already marginal underneath the car will be worse by April.
Unglamorous, and the difference between a manageable drive home on Highway 61 in a storm and a genuinely unpleasant one.
A small drip in October is a large one in February, because cold makes seals shrink and rubber stiff.
Car maintenance on a foreign car costs more than the same work on a domestic sedan, and the reason is the oil itself. Manufacturer-approved synthetic in a 7-quart sump is simply a more expensive item than five quarts of conventional. What you should not be paying for is a longer list of services than your car actually needs.
Call to book it in. We will confirm what your car actually needs at its mileage once it is here, and anything we find beyond that gets quoted separately before it is done.
Car maintenance in Duluth, MN has a rhythm to it. September and October are for the pre-winter list: battery, charging, coolant strength, tires, brakes, wipers and lighting. Spring is for the damage a salt season leaves behind on cars parked anywhere from the East Hillside to Lakeside and Congdon.
Short trips and cold starts count as hard use, and that describes most driving in this city for half the year. Drivers come in from Woodland, Piedmont and the West End, and from Superior, Hermantown, Proctor, Cloquet and Two Harbors. Keeping car maintenance on the manufacturer's schedule is the cheapest thing any of them do.

Same car, three very different afternoons. Here is the honest version, including the row where we are not the right answer.

We left the row we lose on right in the chart. If your car is still under factory warranty for the repair you need, we will tell you to go to the dealership. We would rather say it here than after you have driven over.
Follow your manufacturer's interval as a baseline for car maintenance, then shorten it if your driving is mostly short trips and cold starts, which describes most Duluth winters.
No. Federal law protects your right to have scheduled maintenance performed by an independent shop without voiding a factory warranty, provided it is done to specification and documented. We keep the records you would need.
Bring the list in. Some of it will be genuine manufacturer-scheduled work and some of it will be optional additions. We will go through it with you and tell you which is which, including the parts we would skip.
It is targeted at the things winter finds: battery, charging, coolant strength, tires, brakes, lines, wipers and lighting. It is a short appointment and it is the single most useful thing you can book in October.
We use the oil your car's manufacturer approves, which for nearly every make we service means a specific synthetic. It is not an upsell, it is the specification.
Call first at (218) 722-2246. We book by phone Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and even a short job needs bay time set aside for it.
